Alain Eschalier (MD, PhD, PharmD, Pharmacologist and Psychiatrist) is Professor of Pharmacology at the University Hospital, Head of the Pharmacology department at the Faculty of Medicine in Clermont-Ferrand, France. He was Director of the Inserm research Unit 1107 Neuro-Dol and Head of the research team “fundamental and clinical pharmacology of pain” until 2015. One of his research topic, based on a reverse translational research strategy, is the optimization of the benefit/risk ratio of clinically effective analgesics, working either on their mechanism of action (paracetamol and antidepressants) or on the separation between their analgesic and adverse effects (opioids). His other main topic is the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain with the aim to develop novel compounds or repositioning marketed drugs. He has authored 276 original papers and several book chapters and file six patent applications. Among otherscientific or administrativeresponsibilities, Alain Eschalier is president of the Analgesia Institute based on a private/public partnership and focused on innovation against pain.
